MOD - manual focus Fujinon XF 27mm F2.8 lens with Industar frame (part 2)

It is interesting to keep experimenting with Fujinon XF 27mm F.28 lens modifications and discover new way of reusing its optics in case the electronics fails. Previous mod involved just XF 27mm optical core and Industar lens frame. In this article I’m showing refined version with even more compact size.

Custom Fuji XF 27mm F2.8 on Fuji X-E2s

As you can see lens is now looks much smaller and has conical shape. Focus ring is closer to body. Now it is true Fuji XF pancake lens again : )

I’ve also added reshaped lens name plate from Fujinon lens body.

Of course Industar DOF/distance scale markings are still not usable, and just add more vintage look to this custom manual Fujinon XF lens, and make X-E2s look like very old camera.

Focusing remains with extended range down to about 16cm focusing distance.

Lens conversion details

This mod required lots of plastic an metal grinding, which is quite messy so I didn’t take pictures of the process. Following actions taken:

Cutting all protruding areas from Fuji lens optics frame cylinder to fir it inside of Industar front ring cylinder (with removed Industar optical core frame)
Attaching frontal optics using three o-rings placed between inner Industar helicoid ring, and front ring cylinder.
Cutting Fujinon XF 27mm nameplate and attaching it to front using thick foam adhesive tape
Cutting of about 3mm from Industar focusing ring to attach it to original position at front of inner helicoid cylinder and allow lens to retract more when focusing
Cutting borders of Fuji front plastic plate to fit it inside of Industar front filter thread
Attaching textured rubber to the adapter ring surface.

With more compact size and all components are strongly connected together, new mod version of XF 27mm F2.8 lens is very solid and more durable.

Of course with current modification aperture remains constant F2.8 all the time. It’s not a problem for me, when macro shots with closed aperture required I just use another lens. This Fujinon XF 27mm F2.8 is serving as a daily lens on a jacket pocket sized camera, which can be used daily with high portability.
