MOD – tightening aperture ring – Fujinon XF 14mm F2.8 lens

Fujinon XF 14mm F2.8 is an outstanding lens in Fuji line. It has exceptional optical quality and very fast autofocus. There is only 1 flaw that was bothering me – the aperture ring is very loose and often changes position without letting me notice that.

I’ve disassembled the rear area to see what can be done.

Disassembly steps here are quite simple. Unscrew mount ring bolts, and bolts on inner black plastic ring. Pull out the plastic ring and mount ring. Remove large flat metal shims. Unscrew bolts holding the ring with “14” letters on it, pull out that ring.

Now you can make and insert thin strip of rubber on top of aperture ring side like here:

It should sit firm there, so when you mount “14” labeled ring back and secure all 3 bolts the aperture ring should rotate more tight.

Tinkering with photo equipment is my big hobby. It's often quite challenging to explore disassembly steps or designing new useful accessories, but also a joy to share them later with people. I keep these activities apart from primary work, though appreciating a small tips for a coffee if you find my shared results useful.
